About the role

The Red Piranha environment is a fast paced, security focused environment, with the System Administrator (Hybrid / DevOps) / Security Engineer role having a strong focus on DevOps and cloud infrastructure, this role has significant impact on our growing enterprise environment. The role involves continuous assessment of priorities across a variety of operational and uplift projects.

Key responsibilities

  •  Support – L2 external L3 internal enterprise network
  •  Vulnerability and risk management – conduct vulnerability assessments and security scans, identify, prioritise and remediate security vulnerabilities
  •  Security Architecture and implementation – design and implement security controls and solutions for software and infrastructure
  •  Cloud and infrastructure ecosystems – design virtualize environments and secure cloud platforms and services, implement data protection, encryption and key management across EXSI and Azure infrastructure,
  •  ecurity Automation and continuous improvement mindset – build and maintain security monitoring and response processes, identify opportunities to strengthen security posture and reduce risk, using Azure, GitHub, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Jenkins/GitLab CI/CD and more
  •  Projects & Project management – to build our internal services and software, internal and client facing, as required
  •  Teamwork - collaborate with software developments team to streamline workflows, containerisation (Kubernetes) and operational tooling to embed security best practice 
  •  Documentation - Maintaining accurate documentation of configurations
  •  Travel - may be a component of this role as needed


About you

  •  Bachelor Degree in IT preferred
  •  Proven experience in a Security Engineering role supporting the business-critical infrastructure, both internal and external stakeholders
  •  Proven experience with firewalls, VPNs, Proxy, IPS/IDS, Web content filtering, routing and virilization and containerization
  •  Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies
  •  Proven knowledge of Windows and Microsoft 365 solutions (Office, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Entra ID), O365 Admin
  •  Strong experience with a wide range of Linux systems
  •  Experience with VMWare ESXi
  •  A strong security focus, knowledge of conditional access policies, and familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks
  •  Familiarity with network protocols, LAN/WAN/VPN technologies, and general network troubleshooting
  •  The ability to work independently and collaborate with a team as needed
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with internal stakeholders, end users, and clients
  •  Strong problem-solving skills


Highly Regarded

  •  Experience with; Kubernetes, Azure, GitHub, Python, Bash, Powershell and Jenkins
  •  Experience with:  Firewall, VPNs, Proxy, IPS/IDS. Linx servers
  •  Project management
  •  Formal Networking Engineering qualifications
  •  2 years of experience in similar role


Clearance Requirements

  •  Australian Police Clearance or the ability to obtain one and maintain.
  •  Full Australian working rights (must have)
  •  Ability to obtain Defence clearance
