The Latest Red Piranha News

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a timely reminder for organisations to review and strengthen their security practices. This year’s theme, set by the Australian Government, is “Building our cyber safe culture.”

With cybercrime reports at record levels, the risks facing individuals and businesses continue to escalate. Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue; it’s a shared responsibility. Simple measures, such as using strong, unique passwords, enabling MFA, recognising and reporting phishing attempts, and keeping systems up to date, can have a significant impact in reducing exposure to threats. At Red Piranha, we are committed to supporting organisations in meeting industry standards and building a culture of resilience. If you would like to learn more about how we can help you align with best practices and compliance requirements, we invite you to connect with us.

Knowledge Sprint - Configuration Management Database (CMDB) for Smarter Asset Management in Crystal Eye

News3

Smarter Asset Management starts with CMDB in Crystal Eye.

Asset tracking tells you what you own, but not how those assets connect, which ones are business-critical, or where a single change could trigger outages or compliance gaps. That’s where a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) makes the difference

Join our upcoming Knowledge Sprint - CMDB for Smarter Asset Management in Crystal Eye to learn how Crystal Eye embeds a CMDB into its security architecture to deliver complete visibility into IT asset relationships.

Crystal Eye Platform Updates

The October 2025 update for Crystal Eye XDR 5.5 focuses on making your security operations faster, smoother, and more reliable. You will notice big improvements across Log Management, Application Control, DAS, and SIEM Integration, and overall system stability.

Log handling is now smarter and more efficient, the Application Control module is easier to manage, and Declarative Authorisation Service performs better across multiple systems with faster GUI response and stronger SIEM reporting. High Availability has been refined to ensure accurate synchronisation, while IDPS now captures events more reliably.

The M365 Policy Manager and Microsoft Graph Connector have been updated to handle policy creation and status reporting without hiccups, and the Threat Hunt Dashboard runs more responsively with better filtering.

There is also a cleaner, more accurate Web Filter, tighter EMS integration for Groups and Users, and security hardening fixes like the XSS patch in the LLM app. UI improvements, such as locked table headings in the IP Attack Map and enhanced contrast for bypass fields, make navigation easier. DHCP issues have been fixed for stable network performance, and M365 Risk and Compliance reports now display complete 90-day data. The update is live from 2 October 2025 for all systems with automatic updates, or you can apply it manually via https://crystaeye.lan:81/app/software_updates.

Service Spotlight: SOC-as-a-Service

News3

A Security Operations Center is the frontline of any cyber defence strategy, but running one in-house is costly and complex. Staffing is a major challenge, with Australia alone facing a shortage of 17,000 professionals by 2026. Beyond headcount, effective SOCs require constant investment in certifications, mature playbooks for incident response, and technology that integrates seamlessly.

Gartner identifies three SOC models: hybrid, internal, and tiered; each chosen based on business maturity and risk appetite. Yet most organisations struggle to maintain 24x7 coverage, continuous process updates, and the technical interoperability needed to keep pace with today’s threat landscape.

This is where Red Piranha’s SOC as a Service is beneficial. Instead of building everything internally, organisations can access certified experts, proven processes, and integrated technology on demand.

It reduces cost, scales with business needs, and delivers continuous monitoring, detection, response, and compliance support without the staffing headaches. Providers bring in tested playbooks, interoperable tools, and the ability to shorten mean time to detect, respond, and recover. This gives companies resilience against advanced threats.

Red Piranha takes this model further with its Crystal Eye platform, backed by ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 9001, and CREST-ANZ certifications and membership in the Cyber Threat Alliance. The SOC as a Service offers 24x7 “eyes on glass,” high fidelity threat detection, advanced NDR powered by machine learning, and SOAR-driven automation to act within the critical window of opportunity.

With demonstrated response times as fast as 24 minutes, Red Piranha turns SOC as a Service into a force multiplier, working as an extension of your team, cutting integration costs, and strengthening security posture while you focus on business outcomes.

Here are some benefits of our SOC-as-a-Service:

  • Get cohesive protection against APTs, known and unknown threats, Living-off-the-Land (LOTL) attacks, and more.
  • Full coverage Threat Detection, Investigation & Response (TDIR) with on-demand Incident Response (IR) via our defence-ready 24/7/365 MDR service.
  • World-leading cyber threat intelligence allows contextualisation for actionable protection, detection, and response.
  • On-demand digital forensics and proactive threat hunting.
  • Instantly uplift security with Australian defence-ready incident response capabilities.
  • Improve operational security and boost staff productivity.
  • Reduce the implementation time and TCO with our integrated technology platform.

Red Piranha Events

Here’s a sneak peek into the events we attended recently:

AeroDefCon’25 - Aerospace & Defence Meetings Chennai 2025

News3

Adam and Nidhi from Red Piranha attended the Aerospace & Defence Meetings Chennai 2025.

This 3-day convention brought together leading Indian and international aerospace and defence organisations, global suppliers, and industry professionals for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and partnership development.

Our team had engaging discussions on the rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape and how Red Piranha is shaping the future of information security on the global stage.

As a global leader in cybersecurity and threat intelligence, Red Piranha is at the forefront of securing businesses, governments, and critical industries. Our flagship solution, Crystal Eye, delivers cutting-edge cybersecurity capabilities by integrating threat detection, incident response, and compliance automation to enhance digital resilience.

A special thanks to the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) for the opportunity to represent Australia’s sovereign cybersecurity innovation and connect with global defence leaders.

BSides Canberra

News3

Red Piranha’s Justin Soyke attended BSides Canberra, where he caught up with friends in the industry, learned from peers, witnessed insightful conversations, and even did some soldering for his badge.

He also gave a talk, “My First Phish: The SAIGA Saga.” He shared Red Piranha’s investigation into SAIGA, which led to the group shutting down operations just days after we published our Threat Intelligence Report. He also discussed Phishing and Cyber Threat Intelligence in detail. The talk was well received.

Of course, no BSides is complete without the fun stuff. Justin loved the afterparty, seeing some of his favourite nerdcore artists live, and finishing the conference on a high with some axe throwing.

Sovereign Cyber Capability Unlocked 2025

News3

Scott Windon from Red Piranha attended the Sovereign Cyber Capability Unlocked 2025. This event brought together Canberra's cyber community under one roof. The event saw a fantastic turnout, and we are glad to be a part of that.

From discussions that centred around accelerating Australia’s sovereign cyber future and protecting critical infrastructure to organisations demonstrating their capabilities, it was a morning of fresh connections, insightful conversations, and community building.

A big thank you to Canberra Cyber Hub for organising this event and creating a platform that fosters collaboration, showcases innovation, and strengthens Australia’s cyber resilience.
